NICOLE ZAVALA
Varsity Assistant (Freshman White Coach)

Nicole Coronado Zavalais in her 27th year of coaching in Georgetown ISD. A proud Georgetown alumna, she returned to give back to the program and coaches who inspired her to pursue a career in education and coaching. In 2011, she was honored as the Texas Girls Coaches Association Middle School Coach of the Year.

As a student-athlete, Coach Zavala played under legendary GHS coaches Kellye Richardson and Rhonda Farney, both of whom have become lifelong mentors. She was a member of the Lady Eagle State Finalist team in 1992 beforea knee injury sidelined her senior season.

Coach Zavala went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Kinesiology. While at SHSU, she served as a student assistant for four years under Vic Schaefer—now the head women’s basketballcoach at the University of Texas at Austin—gaining valuable coaching experience and even earning playing time during her final two years.

She dedicated 22 years to serving as the Girls Coordinator at Benold Middle School, where she also found success coaching both girls’ and boys’ cross country.Coach Zavala is married to her childhood friend, Mario Zavala. “We’ve known each other since kindergarten, reconnected in 2015, and have now been happily married for eight years.”

Why I Coach:
“I teach because I want to make a difference in students’ lives—to show them that each one of them is important and special. My goal is to help them grow into independent, successful adults.”
