By GALEN WELLNICKI Georgetown’s Lady Eagles will face Azle in the opening round of the 16-team Eaton Tournament in Fort Worth on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 9-11, on the campus of the newest Northwest ISD school in Fort Worth.
The Eagles, who will be coming off their season opener at Waco Midway on Monday, Nov. 6, will open play the Azle Hornets in the tournament’s opening game at 9 a.m.. If they win their opener, the will play again at 3 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals against either Trophy Club Byron Nelson or Cleburne. Both of those contests will be in Eaton’s main gym.
The semifinals are set for noon and 1:30 p.m. on Friday with the finals at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, following fifth-place, third-place and consolation championship games. Both semifinals and Saturday’s medals games will be played in the main gym.
Consolation bracket games on Thursday and Friday will be played in the school’s auxiliary gym.
On the basis of the preseason Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ listings, GHS is the only state-ranked team in the tournament.
Other teams in the field are host Eaton. Keller Central, Paradise, Argyle Liberty, Justin Northwest, Haltom City, Benbrook, Wichita Falls, Fort Worth Fossil Ridge, Fort Worth Dunbar, Mineral Wells and Euless Trinity.
The Eaton event is the first of three tournaments for the Lady Eagles. The will host their own Jack Frost Invitational on Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and then compete in the Albany Tournament in Albany, La., on Dec. 27-29.
