Pool assignments and the schedule for the 16-team girls division of the annual Jack Frost Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, have been announced. The annual event, which also boasts a 16-team boys division, will have three rounds of pool play on Thursday and Friday and bracket play on Saturday.
The Georgetown Lady Eagles will compete in Pool A along with Houston Westbury Christian, Leander and San Marcos.
Girls teams will play two rounds of pool action on Thursday and one on Friday. The Lady Eagles will open against San Marcos at noon and then face Leander at 6 p.m. on Thursday. GHS will play Houston Westbury Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
If Georgetown wins its pool, it will advanced to the semifinals against Pool B winner — probably defending 4A state champion and last year’s Jack Frost winner Argyle — in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The girls championship game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday. All of those games will be played in Eagle Gym.
The tournament is bracketed in a manner in which Argyle and Liberty Hill could meet again this year for the tournament title. Argyle beat Liberty Hill, 34-26.
Other teams in the field are Amarillo Tascosa, Austin Bowie, Belton, Cibolo Steele, Fort Worth Trimble Tech, Killeen, Lubbock Coronado, San Antonio Incarnate Word, San Antonio Veterans Memorial (the new high school in the Coverse Judson ISD) and Vandegrift.
GHS, Coronado and Westbury Christian also are former Jack Frost champions in the field.
Seven of the girls teams in the JFT will open the season with Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings, including Georgetown. The other are Liberty Hill, No. 1 in 4A; Argyle, No. 3 in 4A; Cibolo Steele, No. 15 in 6A; Fort Worth Trimble Tech, No. 23 in 5A; San Antonio Incarnate Word, No. 6 in TAPPS 6A; and Houston Westbury Christian, No. 3 in TAPPS 5A.
