Three starters for the Region IV-5A runner-up Georgetown Lady Eagles have been named to first-team berths on the All-District 25-5A Team as selected by the alignment’s eight head coaches. Georgetown’s first-team selections are senior point guard Graci Harris, who signed Tuesday to continue her career at John Brown University, 5-9 junior guard Jacqui Spencer and 6-4 junior center Niah Williams. One Lady Eagle — 5-10 senior forward Lauren Woodard — was named to the second team, while six other Georgetown players garnered honorable mention spots for their roles in the team’s 26-5 season, which included a 12-2 run in 25-5A. The honorable mention choices were 5-7 junior guard Morgan Larson, 5-8 senior guard Jordan Stout, 5-5 junior guard Ella Vickers, 5-9 senior forward Megan Herring, 6-1 junior center Sheila Lee and 5-5 junior point guard Sam Folsom.
“It’s always nice when your individual players receive all-distinct recognition,” said Georgetown head coach Rhonda Farney. Equally as important though was the number that made academic all-district. Also, I’m very proud of the hard work that was done in the classroom and on the court by our seniors who were named Academic All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, which are Graci Harris, Megan Herring, Lauren Woodard, and manager Daniel Cunningham.” Lady Eagles earning all-district academic honors were Harris, Herring Woodard, Vickers, Spencer, Larson, Folsom, Cunningham, Emyris Mims, Makayla Owens, Abigail Rutledge, Ainsley Pelczar, Madelyne Furr, Erica Ramthun, and Brooke White.
State 5A and 25-5A champion Cedar Park dominated the all-district team with sophomore Gisella Maul being selected the MVP, junior Shelby Hayes being picked as the offensive MVP and senior Alisa Knight was voted the defensive MVP. The Lady Timberwolves Donny Ott was named coach of the year. Also, three Cedar Park players were first-team all-district selections and two others were voted to the second ream. Leander Glenn freshman Mariah Houston was selected Newcomer of the Year. Georgetown finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the TGCA’s final 5A poll of the season with Wylie East, Plainview, and College Station.
